Congo Bongo is located 4 hours southeast of San Jose, in the Gandoca Manzanillo wildlife refuge in Costa Rica’s Caribbean coast. The 13 acre property contains a wide variety of beautiful tropical flowers, fruits, and giant Rainforest trees.
There is a private walkway to the quiet, unspoiled beach, featuring the beautiful blue Caribbean Sea. The best snorkeling in the area can be found right offshore. The beach is safe without riptides or dangerous coral reefs to spoil you enjoyment.
The wetlands and surrounding forest areas contain a great diversity of species, many endemic to this area. You can also spot crocodiles, alligators, otters, wild boars, sloths, spider monkeys, howler monkeys, white-throated capuchin monkeys, and numerous other species of birds, reptiles and amphibians.
Manzanillo (1km) is a small fishing village with restaurants, grocery stores, a dive shop and a boutique. Town children play soccer on the beach day and night in front of Maxi’s famous seafood restaurant.
